Cash flow
How to read the year-by-year cash flow table, switch between today's and future dollars, and open any year to see every transaction behind it.
Cash flow by year shows your plan with average returns every year. Because there's only one path, every number can be traced to the transactions behind it.
The table
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Year and Ages | The calendar year and each person's age |
| Income | Pay and other income |
| Social Security | Benefits received |
| Withdrawals | Money taken from investments and retirement accounts |
| Taxes | Federal, state and local taxes for the year, including payroll taxes while you work |
| Spending | Everything spent, including healthcare |
| Saved | Contributions and other money added to savings |
| Net worth | What you own minus what you owe at year end |
Use the Today's $ / Future $ switch to choose between inflation-adjusted and actual amounts. On a phone, each year is a card with a See [year] in detail button.

Things to know
- Investment growth isn't a column. It shows in net worth and in the year-end balances.
- Tax law after 2026 is projected by indexing current law for inflation, plus changes already enacted.
- The average path is not a forecast. Use Outlook to see the range of outcomes.
