Notes on the table
- Its FAQ says MoneyGuide “provides Monte Carlo simulation” in its Lifetime Income feature, and lists historical back-test and historical rolling-period stress tests.
- Tax, state tax, Roth conversion and IRMAA rows come from its Winter 2026 release notes, dated February 27, 2026. That release added state tax controls and a view of how Roth conversions or distribution timing affect Medicare premium tiers.
- Estate is marked Partial because the release describes estate-tax modeling at first death, but we didn't find state estate or inheritance tax described. Wealth Studios lists advanced estate, gifting and trust strategies.
- Account linking is marked Partial because it's a paid add-on. Clients can link accounts through MX or Yodlee, each $400 per user per year.
- Its pages mention customizable report templates and print outputs, but we didn't find a file format stated.
- Its FAQ says the software is web-based and works on devices including iPads and iPhones. We didn't find a store app described.
- Plot My Money runs up to 1,000 simulated markets on the free plan and up to 10,000 on Plus.
- Plot My Money on a phone is an installable web app, not a store app.
- Plot My Money doesn't link accounts. You enter balances by hand or import them from files.

Who should pick which
- Pick MoneyGuide if you're an advisor who runs goal-based planning meetings and wants interactive tools to use with clients.
- Pick MoneyGuide if you serve wealthier families who need trust, gifting and entity planning.
- Pick Plot My Money if you're a household planning your own retirement with month-by-month safe-to-spend figures and detailed tax modeling.
- Pick Plot My Money if you're an advisor who wants to set up plans and hand them to clients, and you don't need aggregation or CRM links.
How to switch
Plot My Money doesn't import MoneyGuide files, so you set up your plan again. Have your latest balances, pay, spending and Social Security estimates to hand.
- Start a plan and answer the setup questions about your household, income, spending and accounts.
- If you have a holdings file, import it as Excel or CSV on the Accounts screen.
- Add Social Security from your SSA statement, plus pensions and any other income.
- Compare the results with your old plan. Differences usually come from assumptions about returns, inflation, taxes and spending.
You can download your plan as a JSON file at any time. See getting started and importing and exporting.
